Lawyer: “Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?”
Witness: “No.”
Lawyer: “Did you check for blood pressure?”
Witness: “No.”
Lawyer: “Did you check for breathing?”
Witness: “No.”
Lawyer: “So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?”
Witness: “No.”
Lawyer: “How can you be so sure, Doctor?”
Witness: “Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.”
Lawyer: “But could the patient have still been alive nevertheless?”
Witness: “Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere.”
Day made!

Seeing your patients suffer from impending death amidst unbearable physical and emotional pain. Sometimes, what I wish for is a rock-hard heart that would make me numb during my patient’s struggle for life.
Hence, the title of my blog. Dedicated to every last heartbeat and breath I witnessed.
I witnessed a patient dying the other day. Knowing that there’s nothing else I/we could do was the most unpleasant feeling. Some say we [the medical staff] would eventually get used to it because dying is inevitable, that you’re going to witness more of that until you get numb. I know it would take me long to learn how to control my emotions but still remain empathic that’s why I wish for the same rock-hard heart.

Sponge cake-ish dessert! It’s made of layers of graham crackers, cream, and oreo cookies. Like Philippines’ Crema de Fruta. I shouldn’t be eating this ‘cause I’m sick but I. don’t. care. :D (Taken with instagram)
